Dashboards, reports, and exports

Read health consistently, build custom widgets, and export management-ready reports.

Reporting in Trellis is built from task-level data, so a report reflects what is actually in the workspace rather than a figure somebody typed into a slide.

Start with management questions

Decide the question before choosing a chart. Useful questions sound like where is work stuck, which projects are at risk this month, and how long clients take to approve. A widget that answers a real question gets read, and one built because a chart type looked good does not.

Build governed custom widgets

The report builder defines a widget once: what is measured, how it is grouped, and how it is filtered. Because that definition is stored, the same numbers appear on the dashboard, in the report, and in the export. That is what stops two people quoting different figures for the same thing.

Export for the audience

Internal reviews are usually best served by CSV or XLSX, because people want to sort and dig. Clients are better served by a branded PDF, which presents the same governed data in a form that can be sent on without explanation.

Watch approval and delivery health

Beyond task counts, the useful operational signals are where approvals stall and how long work sits in a stage. If client review is consistently your longest stage, the constraint is the decision process rather than production capacity, and that changes what you should fix.

Keep reports few and current

A dashboard with twenty widgets gets ignored. Keep a small set that the team genuinely reads, and delete the ones nobody has opened. Reports are cheap to rebuild from a saved definition, so removing one is low risk.

Worth remembering

  • Name a widget after the question it answers.
  • If two reports disagree, check whether they share a definition before checking the data.
  • The report builder, PDF export, and project export are Studio features. Approval analytics is available on Agency and above.
Questions

Common questions

Yes. Reports are generated from current task data in the workspace, so an export reflects the state at the time you run it.

Export access is limited to Managers and above.
