Browser and device support

The browsers Trellis is built for, what needs to be enabled, and what to check when something looks wrong.

Trellis runs entirely in the browser. There is nothing to install, and no plugin or extension is required. What it does need is a reasonably current browser, because the interface depends on modern layout features to position the board, the side navigation, and the planning views.

Supported browsers

The current and previous release of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari are supported on Windows and macOS. On phones and tablets, Safari on iOS and iPadOS and Chrome on Android are supported. Browsers built on Chromium, such as Brave, Opera, and Arc, generally behave the same as Chrome of the equivalent version. Internet Explorer is not supported.

Minimum versions

The interface uses modern CSS selectors to lay out the header, the navigation tree, and the dashboard tabs. That sets a practical floor of Chrome 105, Edge 105, Safari 15.4, and Firefox 121. Below those versions the application still loads and works, but spacing and alignment will be visibly wrong in places, so treat anything older as unsupported rather than broken.

What needs to be enabled

JavaScript is required. Cookies must be allowed for the Trellis domain, because signing in creates a secure session cookie and blocking it will send you back to the sign-in screen in a loop. The application also stores small preferences such as your theme and which panels you collapsed. Those live in your browser, not in your account, so a private window works normally but starts fresh each time.

Phones and tablets

The interface adapts to narrow screens, and the parts a client touches, such as reviewing and approving work, are usable on a phone. Wide planning views are a different matter: Gantt, Workload, and the reporting views assume horizontal space, so they are far easier to work with on a tablet in landscape or on a desktop.

If a page does not look right

Reload the page first, then check your browser version against the minimums above. If it still looks wrong, open Trellis in a private window, which loads it without extensions. Ad blockers and privacy extensions are the most common cause of missing panels. If the private window is fine, re-enable your extensions one at a time to find the one responsible. If it is not, send support the browser, the version, and what you were doing.

Worth remembering

  • Chrome 105, Edge 105, Safari 15.4, and Firefox 121 are the practical minimums.
  • Cookies must be allowed, or sign-in will loop back to the login screen.
  • View preferences are stored in the browser, so they do not follow you between devices.
  • A private window is the fastest way to rule out an extension.
Questions

Common questions

No. Internet Explorer is not supported and the interface will not lay out correctly in it.

No. Trellis runs in the browser, with no download, plugin, or extension required.

The interface relies on modern CSS selectors for spacing. Below the minimum versions those rules are ignored, so elements sit closer together than intended.

No. Preferences such as theme and collapsed panels are stored in the browser, so each device keeps its own.
